Lazio's Stephen Makinwa: Larissa Loan Will "Revive" My Career

The Nigerian has moved to Greece on loan...
Stephen Makinwa has joined Greek Super League outfit Larissa on loan from Lazio. The 26-year-old met with club officials in Thessaly on Monday to complete a medical and sign a deal that will keep him at the newly-built AEL Arena until the end of the season.

Following a disappointing season last term, Makinwa is hoping his move to Greece will revive his career and potentially earn him a spot on the Super Eagles’ roster. The striker is confident he can help his side achieve their goals as the Vyssini embark on a new era.

“I’m glad I came to Larissa. This team will give me the chance to play at a high level again, and this good for my career. It will revive it,” Makinwa told the Greek media upon his arrival.

Larissa are hoping that the launch of their new stadium will allow the club to earn a spot in European competition next season, a feat the club hasn’t earned since the 2007/2008 season in which Larissa defeated Blackburn 3-2 on aggregate.

Makinwa is well aware of his side’s aspirations as well as their expectations of him, stating that club’s new outlook impacted his decision to move to Thessaly.

“I know the club will be playing a new stadium this season, and this was definitely one of the factors I considered before making my decision. I cannot say how many goals I will score, but I will do the best I can to help my new team.”
