Europa League contenders Panathinaikos are considering a move for Boca Juniors defender Gabriel Paletta, according to a report in Argentinian newspaper Clarin.
The Greek giants are desperate to beat Olympiacos to the domestic title this season, and are therefore keen to add to the their ranks in the January transfer window.
Recently appointed head coach Nikos Nioplias is believed to be a keen admirer of Paletta, and reportedly sees the centre back as the perfect addition to his defence.
The 23-year-old defender played for Liverpool in the 2006-07 season, but he failed to make an impact with the Anfield side and returned to Argentina to relaunch his career at Boca Juniors.
Paletta was close to a return to Europe last summer, but a move to Palermo eventually collapsed.
