Greek outfit Iraklis Saloniki have given Ukrainian head coach Oleg Protasov the sack a day after their elimination from the Greek Cup by third division side Trikala.
Iraklis have struggled to impress in the Greek league so far this season. They sit 14th in the 16-team first division with only seven points from their first eight matches.
The 45-year-old Protasov joined Iraklis in the summer of 2009 on a two-year deal. However, the former USSR international has now been released from his duties early following the disappointing results.
Protasov previously worked at FC Kuban, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Steaua Bucharest, AEL Limassol and Olympiacos Piraeus.
An official statement on Iraklis' website reads that the club have appointed former player Savvas Kofidis as Protasov's replacement. The 48-year-old retired from professional football in 1999.
