Broos Takes Over At Panserraikos

The cure for Panserraikos' Greek Super League woes? An untried Belgian manager who has never taken his professional football career outside of his home country...
Belgian coach Hugo Broos has taken over as the new manager of struggling Greek Super League side Panserraikos.

The 59 year-old arrived in Greece on Wednesday to begin work with the Serres club, it was officially announced by the club on their website.

He succeeds Giannis Papakostas, whose side had slumped into second-last place following a 3-0 away defeat to Panathinaikos at the weekend.

Papakostas had previously tried to resign on two occasions but his departure was blocked by the club.

Broos, who enjoyed a decorated career as a player for Anderlecht during the 70s, where he was at the heart of their four appearances and two wins in European finals, has never managed outside of Belgium.

A move to Romania broke down after the former Belgium international won both the Cup and League title during a fairly successful managerial career in his home country that began in the 1990s.
