'Why not Jese?' Nicol sees Liverpool swooping for PSG forward

Liverpool are among those to have been linked with a January approach for Paris Saint-Germain forward Jese, and Reds legend Steve Nicol believes a move would make sense.

The Spanish striker has struggled to make the desired impact at the Ligue 1 champions since completing a summer switch from Real Madrid.

A winter exit from Parc des Princes is now being mooted, with PSG boss Unai Emery conceding that all options will be explored for the 23-year-old frontman.

Madrid laughing at flop Jese

Serie A outfit Roma are reported to be leading the chase for Jese, but Liverpool remain in the hunt.

Jurgen Klopp is looking to bolster his attacking ranks during the current window, with Sadio Mane away on Africa Cup of Nations duty with Senegal.

Nicol feels Jese is capable of providing quality cover and would not be surprised to see a formal bid lodged in the coming weeks.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "I think this is possible.

"The fact that PSG have gone and signed Julian Draxler means that there's even less of a chance of Jese starting.

"Klopp has already said that he is interested in added some more attacking wide players, so why not Jese?

Emery hints at Jese PSG exit

"I think this has got a chance, obviously it depends on the money but I think this deal [could happen]."

Jese has made 14 appearances for PSG this season, but has managed just two goals.

He signed a five-year contract upon his arrival in the French capital, but could now see that deal cut short after just five months.
