Chelsea rule out move for Wolfsburg target Lindelof

Chelsea have decided against pursuing a move for Benfica defender Victor Lindelof, but Goal understands Wolfsburg and Zenit St. Petersburg are now battling it out for his services.

Lindelof was on Antonio Conte's shortlist as they desperately tried to recruit defenders before the transfer deadline, but backed out of a deal when they learned Benfica wanted the player's £25 million buy-out clause in full.

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old has grown frustrated with over contract talks with the Portuguese champions and will have options in January despite Chelsea ending their interest in him after securing the services David Luiz and Marcos Alonso.

Wolfsburg and Zenit are now leading the way and are hopeful that they can negotiate with Benfica over the £25m buy-out clause which both clubs feel is too high.

Chelsea have made Niklas Süle from Hoffenheim their long-term target for next summer after his agent confirmed that the Blues had shown an interest.

Süle will likely cost the Stamford Bridge outfit around €30m and has signalled that the club are already planning for next summer transfer market.
