Barcelona revive Gundogan interest

Barcelona have revived their interest in Borussia Dortmund midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, Goal understands.

Barca sporting director, Ariedo Braida, was at the Weserstadion to watch Gundogan as Dortmund beat Werder Bremen 3-1 on Saturday.

The 25-year-old had attracted interest from the Catalan club prior to a back injury picked up while on international duty in 2013 which ruled him out of action for over a year.

Barca subsequently turned their attention instead to the likes of Koke, Marco Verratti and Paul Pogba, but with all three players valued at fees in excess of €60 million, Gundogan is once again considered an option.

Gundogan, who was wanted by Manchester United and initially looked set to leave Dortmund last summer, eventually signed a contract extension to remain at Signal Iduna Park.

But with the Germany international's deal set to expire in 2017, he could become a cheaper alternative for Luis Enrique's side.

Gundogan has scored twice and provided five assists during Dortmund's impressive start to the new Bundesliga season, having helped his side recover from a disastrous first half of the last campaign to qualify for the Europa League.
