Everton in contact with Inter over Vidic swoop

GOALBy Graeme Bailey
Everton have made an enquiry to Inter about the availability of Nemanja Vidic, Goal has learned.

The Serbian centre-back had a less-than-inspiring first campaign with the Nerazzurri last season following his move from Manchester United.

Vidic had been linked with a lucrative switch to the Middle East but Goal understands that there is interest back in England.

A number of clubs are understood to be keeping tabs on the 33-year-old's situation but Everton have made an opening push.

The Toffees just lost out to West Ham for the signng of Italian international Angelo Ogbonna, so a centre-back is high on Roberto Martinez's wanted list, and Vidic is one of the alternative targets to whom the manager has turned his attention.

A source confirmed to Goal: "Vidic is available and he is still only 33 so a move back to England does appeal." //
