Andrea Pirlo looks set to be heading to MLS after the Italian was spotted at New York City FC's match against the New York Red Bulls at Yankee Stadium on Sunday.
Pirlo and soon-to-be NYCFC midfielder Frank Lampard were seen together throughout the day and when images of the midfielders were shown on the big screen at Yankee Stadium, chants of "we want Pirlo" rang out throughout the crowd.
The 37-year-old World Cup winner has been linked to NYCFC for more than a month, with recent reports suggesting his signing will be announced sometime this week and that he will join the club immediately rather than waiting until 2016.
Pirlo has been in Manhattan this week, joining NYCFC owners for a New York Yankees game. Though contract talks have dragged on for weeks, reports suggest that both parties have finally reached an agreement.
Lampard has already signed for the club and will join his new team-mates for training this week.
The 34-year-old English midfielder was on loan at Manchester City last season and will be eligible to begin training on Wednesday, when his spell at the Etihad officially ends.
Pirlo and Lampard could line up together in NYCFC colours for the first time on July 12 against Toronto FC.
