Schalke in talks over €12m deal for Manchester City's Nastasic

By Paul Clennam

Schalke are in talks with Manchester City over a €12 million deal for Matija Nastasic.

The 21-year-old, who joined the Premier League champions from Fiorentina in August 2012, has failed to make a first-team appearance this season and looks set to leave Manuel Pellegrini’s side in January.

Earlier in December, Goal reported that Inter were keen on a loan move for Nastasic as well as City left-back Aleksandar Kolarov.

Nastasic was also offered to Arsenal and Tottenham for €6m in November, although the centre-back’s €95,000-a-week salary has proved to be a stumbling block in negotiations.

Reports in Germany have linked Nastasic with a loan move to Schalke and the German’s club’s chairman Clemens Tönnies has confirmed that talks are ongoing.

"Our coach Roberto Di Matteo has him in his plans,” Tönnies told Bild. “Also, the player wants to help us."

Schalke currently sit fifth in the Bundesliga and will face Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League in February.
