Gecov joins Gent after frustrating 12-month spell at Fulham

Czech Republic international midfielder departs Craven Cottage having failed to make any impression during his 12-month spell with the west London club

Marcel Gecov has left Fulham to join Belgian club Gent on a four-year deal after struggling to make an impact during his time in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old made just two league appearances for the Cottagers after signing from Slovan Liberec on a two-year contract last summer, and, according to his agent, is joining Gent in the hope of getting more regular playing time.

Jiri Mueller, the player's representative, told Czech news agency CTK: "The main reason for the change is for Marcel to play more.

"It was not certain if his position at Fulham would improve. At Gent he will be given a better chance and he could come back under the radar.

"Moreover, he will have a better contract there."

Fulham confirmed Gecov's departure on their official website, saying: "FFC would like to thank Marcel for his efforts during his time in SW6 and wishes him all the best for the future."
