Official: Arsenal sign Mikel Arteta from Everton on four-year deal

Spaniard completes last-minute deadline day switch to the Emirates following a six-year stay at Goodison Park, as Arsene Wenger bolsters squad in north London

Arsenal have completed the signing of midfielder Mikel Arteta from Everton for a reported £10 million fee, signing a four-year contract.

The 29-year-old’s move to the Emirates had earlier seemingly stalled over personal demands, but manager Arsene Wenger moved quickly to secure the Spaniard’s services before the close of the transfer window.

Arteta’s signing will be seen as a replacement for the recently departed Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, with Wenger bolstering his squad in the transfer window following the midfield duo’s transfers to Barcelona and Manchester City respectively.

The former Real Sociedad playmaker is joined in north London by fellow new signings Per Mertesacker, Andre Santos and Park Chu-Young.

Wenger will hope Arteta’s signing will relieve some of the pressure placed on his side following their 8-2 defeat to Manchester United on Sunday.
