Official: Owen Hargreaves signs for Manchester City on one-year deal

Manchester City have confirmed the signing of former Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves on a one-year contract.

The 30-year-old left Old Trafford in the summer as a free agent, having endured an injury blighted four seasons at the club, following his £17 million (19m) switch to Sir Alex Ferguson’s side from Bayern Munich in 2007.

The Canadian-born player had been strongly linked with a move to West Brom throughout the transfer window, after releasing a number of video’s online in order to prove his fitness.

However, Hargreaves has opted to cross the Manchester divide and become the latest addition to Roberto Mancini’s side at the Etihad, following the arrival or Samir Nasri last week.

Former team-mate Wayne Rooney has already lent support to Hargreaves' switch, and the midfielder could be in line to make his Manchester City debut against Bolton on September 10.
