Official: Newcastle United complete signing of Davide Santon from Inter

Newcastle United have confirmed the signing of full-back Davide Santon from Inter for an undisclosed fee understood to be in the region of £5 million (5.6m).

Goal.com exclusively revealed on Tuesday that the attack-minded defender was nearing a switch to St. James’ Park after failing to establish himself at the Italian giants, and now Newcastle have confirmed the move.

Comfortable in either full-back position, Santon joins the club as a direct replacement for Jose Enrique who left for Liverpool during the summer, and both parties are excited by the potential this five-year deal offers.

Toon boss, Alan Pardew told nufcTV: “We are delighted to bring to Davide to Newcastle.

"He is a quality left-back and an established international who also gives us flexibility in defence.

"Davide is a young lad and a great signing for us and I am sure he will adapt to the Premier League very quickly.”

Santon, who won the Champions League in his time at Inter, hailed the club’s ambition as one of the key factors for his move to England.

Santon said: “I am really pleased to sign for Newcastle. The chance to play in the Premier League and in front of 50,000 fans at St. James' Park was too good to turn down.

"This is an ambitious club who want to move forward and I want to help them achieve that."
