Chelsea are on the verge of signing Valencia winger Juan Mata for a fee in the region of €30 million, according to news daily AS.
A report in The Telegraph earlier on Friday claimed that Chelsea had increased their bid to €31m after having a first offer of €25m rejected by the Spanish side.
Spanish sources now claim that Mata himself has asked Valencia president Manuel Llorente to let him go as he looks to further his career abroad.
The two clubs are still in negotiations, but AS claims that only minor details stand in the way of the 23-year old's transfer.
Mata, a Spain international, is set to become the second Valencia star to trade the Mestalla for the Premier League in the space of one year, following in the footsteps of Manchester City's David Silva.
