Jeffren will leave Barcelona with no hard feelings - father

The father of Barcelona winger Jeffren revealed that his son is thankful for the opportunity presented to him by the Catalan club but says he needs to leave Camp Nou in order to evolve as a player.

The Spanish Under-21 star appears poised to sign for Sporting Lisbon in a deal worth approximately €5 million, with reports suggesting he has left Barcelona's camp in Miami to complete the transfer.

Jeffren has been looking for a new club to gain more playing time and his father said he would leave with his head held high despite Barca's attempts to use him as a makeweight in the deal for Chile winger Alexis Sanchez, who eventually signed from Udinese late last month.

"Jeffren will not leave hurt, he thanks the coach [Pep Guardiola] for the opportunity he gave him," Efren Suarez told Cadena Cope.

"The only bad thing is that they used him as currency without talking to us.

"He comes off a season in which he did not play much and now he will have the chance to play, compete in European competitions and improve as a footballer again."
