Roma have reached an agreement with Sporting Gijon over the transfer of defender Jose Angel.
The Spanish outfit made the announcement on their official website on Tuesday afternoon and stated that the 21-year-old has left for Rome in order to meet up with his new colleagues. However, neither the length of the contract nor the transfer fee involved has been revealed as of yet.
Angel was part of the Spain squad that won the European Under-21 Championships last month and had been linked with a move to Barcelona following the triumph.
However, his agent Alfredo Martinez explained that the youngster wants to join Roma as he is "eager to work with Luis and Enrique and Ivan de la Pena” and that he “likes the project” at the capital giants.
Angel is expected to replace John Arne Riise in the team, after the Norwegian international recently completed a move to Premier League side Fulham.
