Cesena have announced they will not follow up their interest in Fiorentina striker Adrian Mutu.
The Romania international had been suggested as a strong possibility to join Cesena as the Italian club look to bolster their attacking options after averaging just one goal per game in Serie A last season.
Cesena have stated on their website that president Igor Campedelli met with Mutu's agent, Pietro Chiodi, earlier on Tuesday to learn the terms of a potential deal. It is explained that Campedelli had to admit defeat, as economical divergences made a transfer impossible to come to fruition.
Mutu, who signed for Fiorentina in 2006, has been linked with a new challenge after enduring an indifferent season at the Italian club, scoring just four times in 20 Serie A appearances.
