Marseille want Lorient’s Morgan Amalfitano as possible replacement for Lucho Gonzalez – report

French giants are reportedly keen to sign the midfielder in the wake of suggestions that their Argentine star is on his way out of the club

Olympique de Marseille are interested in recruiting Lorient midfielder Morgan Amalfitano in the summer as a replacement for Lucho Gonzalez, reports in the French media suggest.

L'Equipe comments that the former Ligue 1 champions have identified the 26-year-old as a viable option should Lucho choose to leave the Stade Velodrome in the close season, with Malaga being touted as a possible destination for the playmaker.

Amalfitano has been with Lorient since 2008 and has established himself as one of the finest players in Ligue 1, scoring five goals and providing 11 assists in 37 league appearances in 2010-11. He will be available as a free agent at the end of the current campaign.

Marseille could face some competition in landing the Frenchman, however, as Aston Villa and Sevilla are also said to be interested in his services.

L'Equipe also reports that l'OM are preparing themselves for the possible departure of defender Gabriel Heinze, and Kader Mangane, currently with Rennes, is at the top of their wish-list. The 28-year-old Senegal international is likely to cost between €5 million and €7m.
