Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is plotting a raid on former club Inter for striker Diego Milito, according to reports from Italy.
Corriere dello Sport reports that the Argentine international, who was an instrumental figure in the Nerazzurri’s treble-winning campaign, has emerged as the Portuguese boss’ top transfer target in January.
Los Blancos look set to suffer the loss of first-choice hitman Gonzalo Higuain for two months with a back injury, leaving struggling Karim Benzema as Mourinho’s only recognised attacker.
The club have also been linked with moves for Edin Dzeko from Wolfsburg and Manchester City front man Emmanuel Adebayor, but after working closely with Milito last season, Mourinho wants to bring him to the Santiago Bernabeu to boost his options as he looks to challenge Barcelona for their Primera Division title.
The 31-year-old has expressed his concern at the recent results under current coach Rafa Benitez, and would likely be interested in teaming up with Mourinho once again should the opportunity arise.
