Primera Division side Racing Santander have confirmed the signing of Chilean defender Waldo Ponce from Universidad Catolica, the club have confirmed.
The 27-year old international has arrived in Cantabria on a season-long loan deal, and the Verdiblancos have inserted a purchase option into the deal, allowing them to clinch a permanent transfer for a fee in the region of €600,000.
Ponce is likely to be the last addition in the current transfer window for coach Miguel Angel Portugal, meaning his squad for the 2010-11 season is finalised.
The no-nonsense stopper has been capped 29 times by La Roja and was included in their provisional World Cup squad for South Africa, but missed out on a place in the final 23 for the tournament.
Racing have been in the hunt for defensive cover, and Barcelona exposed their frailties by strolling to a 3-0 at El Sardinero on the opening day of the season, courtesy of goals from Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and David Villa.
