Jorge Valdano Reveals Mahamadou Diarra Is Likely To Leave Real Madrid

Two or three players could leave the Bernabeu before the transfer window closes at the end of the month...
Real Madrid director-general Jorge Valdano has revealed that the club are looking to offload two or three players before the end of the transfer summer window and admitted that defensive midfielder Mahamadou Diarra is likely to leave.

The Spanish giants currently have 26 players in their first-team squad but need to trim the number down to 25. The likes of Fernando Gago, Lassana Diarra, Mahamadou Diarra and Rafael Van der Vaart have been mentioned as possible candidates to head out the exit door.

“We will be comfortable with two or three exits," he said, according to AS. "He (Diarra) is the only one we have spoken in a direct manner, but we have talked to some of the other players that will have difficulties winning a place in the first team."

Valdano was also hugely appreciated of Jose Mourinho and sang the new coach's praises.

“I believe it was necessary to bring in a man with strong leadership skills and that is represented, better than anyone in today’s football, by Jose Mourinho.

“It is easy to have an understanding with him. He has a feeling for the club, is passionate about his work, obsessive about success and everything he suggests is reasonable.

“I thought he was a fanatic, but he is a person with a very flexible intelligence.”
