Olympique Marseille have announced that they are actively pursuing two unnamed strikers. According to a report on Violanews, one of those strikers is believed to be Fiorentina forward Alberto Gilardino.
The French champions had been chasing Luis Fabiano from Sevilla, but the Brazilian's valuation was too high for coach Didier Deschamps and they have been forced to continue their search.
Gilardino has been linked with moves away from Fiorentina but has denied he will be leaving Florence this year. However, Marseille now have money to spend after the sale of Mamadou Niang to Fenerbache.
Deschamps admitted last time they approached Fiorentina concerning the Italian striker, l'OM did not have the money but now the case will be different. It will be solely down to persuading the player and the club to part with his services, especially with Fiorentina short on strikers with not much time to find a replacement.
