Manchester City are interested in trying to capture World Cup Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid, according to sources in Italy and Spain.
AS have announed the Citizens are ready to abandon the deal for Inter striker Mario Balotelli due to huge salary demands, that even big spenders Manchester City have deemed unacceptable. However they are willing to offer Forlan something similar to the Italians' request, as he is proven at the very top level.
The Uruguayan has stated he will remain in Madrid but the 31-year-old might be tempted if such a huge offer was on the table.
Tuttomercato have also mentioned that City manager Roberto Mancini is not afraid to drop the deal for Balotelli, despite the player's agent saying personal terms have been agreed.
"It is true we have offered €4 million and we have already signed," said Mino Raiola.
Balotelli is currently in America with Inter on a pre-season tour but was not named in the squad for their game against FC Dallas.
