Roma are assembling a €7 million offer for Nicolas Burdisso, hopeful that it will help break Inter shackles on the defender.
Claudio Ranieri confirmed he was eager to re-sign the Argentinean, but conceded he was powerless to influence a deal.
"Nicolas has all the characteristics of the players I prefer. He is a very important player for me, but now it's down to the clubs," said the coach.
That response came after the player's agent Fernando Hidalgo said Friday his client "wanted Roma".
And Il Corriere dello Sport claims a development in talks, which have so far stalled over Inter's demands, could progress next week.
Hidalgo, Daniele Prade (Roma's transfer chief) and Inter director Marco Branca are all expected to meet on Tuesday.
The Lupi will make a final take-it-or-leave-it offer of €7 million, despite Inter's €8.5m demands.
