OFFICIAL: Jean-Alain Boumsong Completes Panathinaikos Switch From Olympique Lyonnais

As anticipated, the deal has been concluded...
Olympique Lyonnais have confirmed via their official website that they have sold Jean-Alain Boumsong to Panathinaikos.

Former Newcastle United and Juventus central defender Boumsong arrived in Athens on Thursday night to complete the formalities of the deal, which has since been officialised by the Rhone Valley outfit.

“Lyon and Panathinaikos have agreed to the transfer of Jean-Alain Boumsong, who has passed the medical examination in Athens,” OL’s official website disclosed in a statement. “The transaction was concluded for a sum of €500,000 with a possible bonus of €250,000.”

At one stage the deal seemed potentially fragile as Pana wanted OL to simply release Boumsong from his contract, which was due to expire next summer. Les Gones, however, have managed to negotiate some form of compensation for the 30-year-old Cameroon-born defender who made over 50 Ligue 1 appearances for OL in around 18 months at the club.

On his arrival in Athens on Thursday evening, Boumsong told the media: “I came here to win titles. I'm really happy to come to Panathinaikos.”

Boumsong has penned a three-year deal with the Greek outfit.
