According to a report in L’Equipe, Jean-Alain Boumsong is not keen on making a switch to Greek giants Panathinaikos, implying that he would rather stay put with Olympique Lyonnais.
The centre-back has a contract that is due to expire next summer and as such OL could have opted to sell the former Rangers and Newcastle United man in this transfer window so as to avoid losing the France international on a free transfer. Panathinaikos were rumoured to be hovering around the 30-year-old, but the suggestion in France is that the Cameroon-born player doesn’t want to switch to the Athens club.
Indeed, Boumsong is not in a hurry. The media report that the defender is ready to see out his contract with the Rhone Valley side and sign on for a new club before the start of season 2011-12.
There has been no shortage of clubs linked with the 27-time capped player, as Hamburg and Paris Saint-Germain have also been associated with him since the end of last season. However, Boumsong is content to bide his time.
Such news comes at a frustrating time for Pana, who recently learned of William Gallas’ decision to turn his nose up at a potential move to Greece.
