Italian outfit Catania have completed the transfer of young midfielder Alejandro Gomez from Argentinian outfit San Lorenzo for a fee of €3 million. The South Americans have confirmed the transfer on their official website.
The Sicilian side were in the market for a new attacking midfielder following the departure of Jorge Martinez to Juventus earlier this summer and head coach Marco Giampaolo sees Gomez as the perfect replacement.
The 22-year-old Gomez started his professional career at Arsenal de Sarandi, but joined San Lorenzo in January 2009. The former Argentina under-20 star didn't waste any time to become an important first team.
Gomez voiced his concerns with San Lorenzo's financial situation earlier this week and added that he could leave the club on a free transfer if they didn't pay salaries in time. Therefore, San Lorenzo have decided to cash in on their star midfielder. They owned 50 percent of the player's economical rigths.
