Roma's protracted move for Nicolas Burdisso has become less likely to reach a happy conclusion as negotiations with Inter fail.
Burdisso's agent Fernando Hidalgo confirmed there was little prospect of the player staying in the capital unless both sides devoted more resources to the transfer.
Unless they reach an agreement over a fee - Inter want €10 million but Roma are offering far less - the move will remain grounded.
But Hidalgo said a move can still be resurrected if both clubs restructure negotiations carefully.
"Burdisso is now an Inter player. An agreement was not found with Roma," Hidalgo told Telelombardia.
"If both clubs change idea then they can give me a call."
Burdisso spent last season on loan in Rome, and Claudio Ranieri is keen to keep him permanently, but seems reluctant to bow to Inter pressure.
