Aris Thessaloniki have indicated they do not wish to continue with Benfica winger Freddy Adu in their ranks.
The United States international signed a two-year loan contract with Aris in January, hoping to kick-start his career in Europe after failing to make his mark at Benfica and Monaco.
However, Adu has found himself on the fringes of the action at the Greek side, and coach Hector Cuper does not even plan on taking him to the club's pre-season training camp in Austria.
With Adu still having one more year to run on his loan deal, Aris are now looking to release the player and return him to Benfica.
"He is still our player, but we are going to speak to Benfica to try to find a solution," Aris spokesman Chrisanthos Tsaltidis told Record.
Adu signed for Benfica from Real Salt Lake in the summer of 2007 for $2 million, but after an indifferent first season at the Estadio da Luz, he has been loaned out to Monaco, Belenenses and Aris.
