As reported by AS, English giants Manchester United are contemplating a €20 million offer for Real Madrid's Rafael van der Vaart, as Red Devils manager Sir Alex Ferguson is rumoured to be keen on the Dutchman.
Sir Alex has already announced that there will be no major moves in this summer's transfer market, but the English press speculates that this is just a ploy to quell the press rumours and that the club are seeking an attacking midfielder in Van der Vaart's mould.
However, it is yet uncertain as to whether Van der Vaart is in Madrid coach Jose Mourinho's plans for next season. Last year, Los Blancos offloaded Dutch attackers Arjen Robben and Wesley Sneijder only to watch both players become wildly successful with their new clubs and Sneijder became a fixture in Mourinho's Inter squad.
Van der Vaart is a player very much like Sneijder and it remains to be seen if the Special One will employ him in similar fashion. The Dutchman was nearly a transfer casualty early last season, but an acceptable offer did not come in and Los Blancos kept him. Eventually, he ended up replacing an injured Kaka in the starting line-up and put in a number of impressive performances.
