Alberto Fontana is a free agent after the expiration of his contract with Sicilian club Palermo, but the 42-year-old has no intention of calling it a day just yet and could extend his career at Roma.
The Giallorossi are scouring the transfer market for a reliable understudy to Brazilian No. 1 Doni, and Fontana’s representative claims the player would jump at the chance to join the capital club.
“I have yet to speak with [Roma director of sport Daniele] Prade, but it could be done since there has been talk about it for two years,” agent Bruno Carpeggiani admitted to Tuttomercatoweb.
“Hope is the last to die and the player would be happy, given that he is a free agent.”
Fontana endured a difficult time in Palermo last season and was frozen out of the squad in December.
He played his last game for the Rosanero against his former side, Inter, on November 15.
