Stoke City In Talks With West Ham United Regarding Dean Ashton

According to a report emanating from Sky Sports, Stoke City chairman Peter Coates has announced that they have entered into negotiations with West Ham United over Dean Ashton.

It was reported on Tuesday that the Potters were considering making an approach to the Hammers for the 6ft 2in striker.

The 25-year-old has struggled with injury problems since moving to Upton Park from Norwich City for £7.25 million in January 2006, starting just 24 games in the 2007/08 campaign and making just five appearances last season.

However, it seems that the one-time capped England international's goal-scoring record has convinced Stoke manager Tony Pulis to move for the former Crewe Alexandra youth team product.

Despite being limited to 56 first-team matches for West Ham, Ashton has scored 19 goals.
