Honda: I'll live up to expectations this season

The Japan international has impressed only sporadically since arriving at San Siro in July of last year but he has promised to shine in 2015-16

Keisuke Honda has promised AC Milan's fans that they will see the best of him this season.

The Japan international joined the Rossoneri on a free transfer from CSKA Moscow in January 2014 but has thus far failed to produce his very best form on a consistent basis, netting eight times in 46 matches in all competitions.

However, Honda has taken great encouragement out of being played in his preferred No.10 role in Milan's latest friendly, against Real Madrid on Thursday, and is now looking forward to the 2015-16 campaign with relish.

"The position in which I played in tonight is perfect for me," he told Milan Channel. "I played there for 10 years.

"I want to live up to the expectations of the fans for this season and I am sure that everything will go well.

"But I want to please our fans. I promise the fans that I will do my best for them and for Milan."

The Rossoneri drew 0-0 with Madrid only to lose 10-9 on penalties. However, Honda feels the game against Los Blancos, and Saturday's 1-0 win over Inter, offered plenty of evidence that Milan are moving in the right direction under new coach Sinisa Mihajlovic, who succeeded Filippo Inzaghi at the helm following last season's 10th-placed finish in Serie A.

"We must keep working hard, and of course, we know we have to change from last year," the attacking midfielder added.

"I don't think it is time to talk, but time to work hard.

"We have played out some great matches at the International Champions Cup with Inter and Real Madrid, but we can still improve."
