Fiorentina: Rossi's knee overloaded but improving

Fiorentina have revealed that while Giuseppe Rossi's troublesome right knee is overloaded, it is healing.

It emerged after last week's friendly win over Real Madrid that the Italy international was experiencing discomfort in the joint, raising concerns that the injury-plagued forward was facing another lengthy spell on the sidelines.

However, Rossi underwent further examination on Monday and the Viola have now confirmed that the situation is not as bad as first feared.

"ACF Fiorentina announces that the tests on the athlete Giuseppe Rossi have confirmed joint overload, although they are associated with clinical improvement," read a club statement released on Monday.

"In the next week, after further physiotherapy treatment, a specialist assessment will be performed."

Consequently, Rossi, who has twice torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, will now miss Fiorentina's Serie A opener against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
