Official: Genoa sack coach Alberto Malesani and appoint Pasquale Marino as his successor

Despite the fact that the Rossoblu are in the top half of the table, the club decided on a change of leadership after Wednesday's humiliating 6-1 defeat by Napoli
Genoa have confirmed on their official website that they have sacked coach Alberto Malesani and replaced him with Pasquale Marino.

The Rossoblu are currently a respectable 10th in the Serie A standings but suffered a demoralising 6-1 loss to Napoli at the San Paolo on Wednesday.

Genoa decided on a change of leadership after the game and have dismissed Malesani, who only arrived in Liguria over the summer after doing a good job in difficult circumstances at Bologna last season.

It had been rumoured that former Juventus boss Gigi Del Neri was in the running to take over but Genoa have instead turned to Marino, who has signed a contract which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2013.

Marino, who will be officially presented to the media on December 29, has been out of the game since being fired by Parma in April but the 49-year-old retains a reputation as one of the more innovative coaches in the Italian game.
