Official: Sergio Romero joins Sampdoria from AZ

Argentine goalkeeper set to join Serie B club, ending his four-year association with the Eredivisie outfit
AZ goalkeeper Sergio Romero is set to join Serie B side Sampdoria, with a press conference called to unveil the player on Tuesday.

Sampdoria were relegated from the Italian top flight at the end of last season, boasting a poor defensive record, and it seems Riccardo Garrone's men are looking to strengthen their back line with the signing of the Argentina's international, who played in all his nation's 2010 World Cup and 2011 Copa America games.

The 24-year-old left his homeland for the Netherlands in 2007, and went on to establish himself as AZ's first choice keeper, recording 90 Eredivisie appearances in his four-year spell with the Dutch side.

Romero will now ply his trade in Italy, moving to the Genoa club for an undisclosed fee.
