AC Milan will have to make do without the services of promising youngster Stephan El Shaarawy when they take on city rivals Inter in the Supercoppa Italiana as the midfielder has been sidelined with knee trouble.

It's not yet exactly known how long the 18-year-old will be out of action, but El Shaarawy won't travel to China with the rest of the team due to the knock.

"He had only one training session at Milanello and then had to stop. Unfortunately, he won’t be coming to Beijing," head coach Massimiliano Allegri said, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

El Shaarawy, who joined Milan from Genoa this summer, joins the likes of Philippe Mexes, Mathieu Flamini and Filippo Inzaghi on the Serie A champions' injury list.

The match between Milan and Inter takes place on August 6 and will be played in Beijing.
