Beating Inter was the key to AC Milan's Scudetto success - Alexandre Pato

Alexandre Pato believes AC Milan's derby success over Inter powered them to the Scudetto.

The Brazilian striker scored a brace against the Nerazzurri back in April, his first goal arriving after just 40 seconds.

It was a decisive result which saw Milan maintain command at the top to win their first Scudetto since 2004.

And Pato feels the Derby della Madonnina was the defining moment.

"I knew we could win the title after the first game, the 4-0 victory over Lecce. We could see we were strong and could do well," he told the press.

"We could see in training we were strong. The 3-0 win over Inter was emotional for me as I scored to allow us to take the points.

"It was a great satisfaction and a game which pushed us to win the Scudetto."

Meanwhile, Gianluca Zambrotta was looking forward to the future, and in particular the arrival of Taye Taiwo from Marseille.

"He passed his medical and he is an excellent buy as we need people who can make a difference in the Champions League," said the Italian.

Milan play Udinese on Sunday night.
