Inter midfielder Dejan Stankovic is adamant the team's best years are not a thing of the past with an appearance in the Coppa Italia final on the cards after they defeated Roma 1-0 in the first-leg of their semi-final encounter.
Stankovic scored the winner on Tuesday evening at the Olymico in Rome with the club returning to Serie A action on Saturday against Lazio, who are just three points behind them.
However, the Serbian playmaker believes that Inter have been unfairly dismissed by the media.
"For five years we win everything but people can't wait for us to slip up so they can condemn us. When we lose now everyone says all of the success is in the past. They are wrong," the 32-year-old told reporters.
Stankovic will be playing against his former club at the weekend in what will be a fascinating encounter with both sides wishing to finish the season in third place, the final automatic qualification spot for the Champions League.
"We need to make sure we are hard to beat and remain compact in all areas until the end of the season."
The experienced midfielder is currently in his eighth season with the reigning Italian and European champions, scoring a total of 41 goals in 290 appearances.
