Zenit St. Petersburg and Bayern Munich are chasing the capture of Fiorentina's highly rated Juan Manuel Vargas, according to reports from Peru.
The Viola man's agent, Carlos Delgado, has already flown to Spain to meet with representatives of the Bundesliga champions and the source has stated this has made Zenit coach Luciano Spalletti step up his own bid to land the Peruvian.
"He is a classy player with a strong character. On the field he can perform in numerous roles and I am sure he will be of interest to many teams," Spalletti was quoted as saying by Championat.ru.
The Russian champions, who have promised some high profile additions to the squad, are willing to pay €20 million for the left-sided wizard.
Bayern had targeted Benfica full-back Fabio Coentrao in the summer but it now would appear their interest has been switched following reports that the Portuguese international will join Real Madrid in the summer.
