Milan Won't Decide Rafael Benitez's Future, Inter Will - Ernesto Paolillo

Inter CEO Ernesto Paolillo claims Rafael Benitez is not under threat...
Inter coach Rafael Benitez is not walking down a dangerous path as club CEO Ernesto Paolillo offers him a shield from the disgruntled voices wanting him out after the Milan derby defeat.

The result was met with plaintive groans from president Massimo Moratti. He expected Benitez to offer more, but instead witnessed his side lose further ground on the league leaders. The gap now stands at six points.

Morning papers across the peninsula suggested a conflictual society had evolved at Inter with Benitez clutching the short straw.

However, Paolillo has moved in to offer solace and solidarity towards the Spaniard, whose future has not been put into question by the Milan loss.

"Our relations with the coach are excellent - this is not the problem," he told La Repubblica.

"We just have to find amalgamation on how to work together best.

"I saw shots on goal, and so this means we never suffered too greatly against Milan, apart from the penalty.

"Of course, the road now is uphill, but we are still at the start of the championship. Nothing is compromised."
