Inter tactician Rafael Benitez is lamenting the amount of injuries the Nerazzurri suffered in their 1-0 loss to Milan in the Derby della Madonnina this evening.
The Spaniard believes the early penalty awarded to the Rossoneri conditioned the match.
"The penalty awarded at the start changed the match," Benitez bemoaned to Mediset Premium post-match. "We knew that [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic was quick, especially on the break.
"We had four players who were returning from injury, and they all needed time to find the right physical conditioning. Those players who weren't 100 per cent fit found it difficult."
Benitez says the six-point gap to the Rossoneri can be closed, as the season is still long.
"It is a points gap that no one likes, but this difference can be closed," he said. "Losing a derby is never easy, and we must find the right mentality to recuperate."
