Inter striker Samuel Eto'o has underlined the magnitude of the effect a move for Barcelona ace Lionel Messi would have on the club, preferring his former team-mate over Manchester United man Wayne Rooney.
Massimo Moratti continues to hold out hope for Messi, despite the striker claiming he is staying at Barcelona.
Reports suggest Inter would need €250 million to buy him out of a contract at Barcelona.
In the meantime, Rooney has become available after his relationship at Old Trafford ruptured. He looks likely to leave, and has been linked with the Nerazzurri.
But Eto'o believes Messi would be the better option.
"Messi or Rooney? Rooney is a champion, but Messi is God," Eto'o told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"I don't know about the market, but I back Messi. I have known him for 10 years now, ever since he played for Barcelona's B team.
"However, I am not Moratti."
