Wesley Sneijder Admits He Wanted Zlatan Ibrahimovic To Stay At Inter

Sneijder admits he wanted to link up with Ibrahimovic when he joined the club in 2009, but the Swede left for Barcelona...
Inter midfielder Wesley Sneijder says he would have liked to play alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Nerazzurri and reunite with his former Ajax team-mate.

"Ibrahimovic is one of the strongest strikers in the world. I remember when I was about to join Inter, but then he went to Barcelona and now Milan," he reportedly told Sportbladet.

"Zlatan is a good person. Last week we met in Milan when he was trying to buy a house close to where I live. We may become neighbours. We talked about the match between Sweden and the Netherlands, as well as the Milan derby."

"I wanted Zlatan to stay at Inter. I wanted to support him, because according to him with me the strikers play better. We started sending text messages, and he also spoke with [Inter president Massimo] Moratti, but when it seemed I would be coming he was leaving for Barcelona.

Sneijder is one of the main candidates for the Ballon d'Or, but believes there are many talented players who could claim the prize.

"We must not forget there are others who can win it. I'm not thinking about it at the moment. I'm concentrated on the matches," he concluded.

The 26-year-old also recently confirmed he would be signing a new deal with the Nerazzurri, despite reports of stalled negotiations.
