Stefano Mauri is glad he never left Lazio for Sampdoria in the summer - a decision that has paid off as a super start with his club side has acted as the springboard to la Nazionale.
The midfielder has been called to the Italy side by coach Cesare Prandelli and he said his new found status is down to Lazio's pleasant start in Serie A.
"I was very close to Sampdoria in the summer, but both Edy Reja and Claudio Lotito were against it," he told Tuttomercatoweb.com.
"They said I was unsellable and I was very happy with this and so I signed an extension with Lazio until 2013.
"I want to thank the president and Lazio and I think I want to end my career here."
