Former Napoli assistant coach Sergio Buso has revealed that the Partenopei directors were already thinking about Walter Mazzarri as a possible replacement for Roberto Donadoni whilst he was still in charge of the side.
Donadoni was sacked early last season after a poor start, and replaced by Mazzarri. The former Sampdoria and Reggina coach took the Azzurri to a sixth-place finish.
"We started last season with the Sword of Damocles over our head," Buso told Sampdorianews.net. "All you need to do is speak to [former Napoli director Pierpaolo] Marino.
"He will reveal it all as he is aware of everything that happened. The club was already thinking about Mazzarri prior to the season starting."
Buso says it is too early to be judging the side after only two matches into the season, having only earnt two points.
"I don't think it is a conditioning problem on the part of the players. It is too early to say where the problem may lie," he concluded.
