With just one week left until the start of the new Serie A campaign, former Italy star Christian Panucci has decided to hang up his boots following a senior career spanning 19 years.
“After much thought and deliberation I have decided to retire from football," the 37-year-old told SkySport. “There were a number of offers from the USA but without the right motivation it is only right that I hang up my boots.
“Becoming the first Italian to win the Champions League with Real Madrid has to be the greatest moment of my career.
“I would like to thank all my former clubs, teammates, coaches and especially Fabio Capello for some incredible years together.”
