On Monday, Inter president Massimo Moratti declared that star defender Maicon was indeed staying put, despite interest from Jose Mourinho and Real Madrid over the course of the summer. The player's agent, Antonio Caliendo, has commented on the situation, suggesting that Maicon is deserving of - and eager for - a pay raise after his immediate future had been decided.
"I think as the minimum Maicon should be recognised," he was quoted as saying by Ansa.
Caliendo is confident that it is indeed a possibility, based on the knowledge that Maicon is considered an indispensable member of the squad in the eyes of the president.
"Based on the words of Moratti I think so. Now I must communicate with him in person," concluded the player's representative.
Maicon had a very strong finish to the 2009-10 season, playing a key role in the side's historic treble triumph. Real Madrid were reportedly prepared to bid in the region of €26 million for the Brazilian international.
