Inter are ready to launch a €7 million bid for Galatasaray midfielder Elano after Rafael Benitez gave the move the thumbs up, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.
Elano, who joined the Turkish side last year from Manchester City, is seen as an ideal player whose low cost is welcomed by the Nerazzurri.
Massimo Moratti is keen to keep expenditure on an affordable level and Benitez is following that line as he tries to balance the budget with a long term plan.
The Spanish coach is an admirer of the Brazilian and he wants him to sign for Inter, who were close to signing him in 2008 when Roberto Mancini was coach.
Elano has an Italian passport and thus his arrival would not have an effect on the club's non-EU quota, but wage demands of €4.2m a year could see the club re-focus its ideas.
Meanwhile, the move for Javier Mascherano is going well, but there are doubts over Diego Milito's renewal after his agent Fernando Hidalgo warned there were offers elsewhere.
"It's his last important contract. If Inter please him then it's all well, if not he can leave because there are many requests for him," Hidalgo said.
